Facebook Rolls Out Community Feature in US

The social network giant, Facebook wants users to take action regarding the causes which the users are concerned about, and this can be done at the comfort of the News Feed itself.

Facebook has launched the Community Actions today, which is a News Feed petition feature that will allow users or social workers to request a change from their appropriate local or government bodies. According to TechCrunch, the Community Action feature will be rolled out in the US.

The Community Actions will provide their own discussion feed wherein people will have the facility to leave in comments, create fundraisers, as well as organise Facebook Events or Call Your Rep campaigns.

The basic idea behind the addition of the petition feature is to provide a seamless way of supporting a cause. The one-click Support button will reduce the steps of signing up. Facebook’s humungous user base has made it easy for organizations, groups, and individuals to seek support on a bigger scale.

At the same time, On Sunday, Facebook announced that it would create an independent Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and it will provide an initial grant of $7.5 million (approximately Rs. 53 crores).

The institute has collaborated with the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Germany, and TUM will prove to be of help in the advancement of the ever-growing field of ethical research on new technology and it will also help in exploring the fundamental issues which affect the use and impact of AI.

Joaquin Quinonero Candela, the Director of Applied Machine Learning, at Facebook said- “The institute will initiate to conduct independent, evidence-based research which will provide insight and guidance to the society, industry, legislators, and decision-makers across the private as well as the public sectors.”
