Amazon Fire TV Stick

Amazon is aiming to beat Roku sales as the most popular streamer. Its most popular and cheapest Fire TV stick is getting a major feature bump for 2019. The updated version of the Amazon Fire TV Stick goes on sale today. It is upgraded with the volume, mute and power buttons on the remote control.

The Fire TV Stick is a small USB-size stick with an HDMI port that plugs into your TV and streams movies, TV shows and music from Amazon Prime, Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, Hulu, and many other sources. Its major competitor is Roku.  Roku’s streamers prefer more over Fire TV because of Roku’s superior interface. But the affordable prices and superior features of the new Fire TV Stick make it more appealing.

Roku cheapest streamers with TV control remotes; equipped model is the $50 Streaming Stick. It’s missing some of the feature over Amazon fire stick like commanding sound bars or receivers, no mute button available.

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K has a long list of features which includes excellent Alexa voice integration but lamented its menus and user interface. It’s much prettier than Roku’s interface has too many ads and promos for Amazon’s own shows and content, do not provide customization option. Amazon’s s fire stick setup automatically detects your TV brand and sets up the power, volume and mute buttons to control that TV.

It also provides access to TV volume and power control via voice from the remote itself or hands-free if you pair it with an Alexa speaker like an Echo Dot.

Amazon just launched the new IMDb Freedive service, is available on all Fire TV devices. It’s an app that offers up “thousands of” TV shows and movies from IMDb Freedive, TubiTV, Pluto TV, Sony Crackle and other services for free, with ads.
