Xiaomi’s Patent for 4 sides Curved Display Smartphone

Xiaomi has been busy preparing for the launch of their Mi 9, which has been suggested by a new report. This report also suggested that this is the development of a phone which will have all four curved edges. The Chinese giant has already patented a new design which will be seen on a full-screen smartphone that will have a four-sided edge display. This is similar to the edge-screen panels which are currently being used by Samsung on their flagship models. But Samsung will be seen providing curved edges on the right and left sides of the display panel whereas Xiaomi will be looking at giving some curvature on the top and bottom too.

The patent application has been filed with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO), that has been obtained by LetsGoDigital, which shows that Xiaomi has plans of bringing a new four-sided edge display smartphone to the market. The graphical representation in the patent shows that this would be a truly full-screen model that won’t have a selfie camera or earpiece in the front. The company has brought models such as Mi Mix 3 and Mi Mix 2S which will provide a glimpse into the futuristic designs.

The visualisation of the patented technology showed that Xiaomi could take a step forward and bring a handset that will have a four-sided curved display. The phone could also come with a dual rear camera setup that will have an LED flash module and a USB port at the bottom. No details regarding whether this patent is a proof of concept of it will be brought into their upcoming smartphones has been revealed.

Models like the Meizu Zero and Vivo Apex 2019 have recently come up with their concepts which would have no physical buttons that would give a sneak peek at the future. But Xiaomi hasn’t yet jumped into that stage and is currently busy parking way for their next flagship which is all set to be known as the Mi 9.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 could be seen making a debut with an in-display fingerprint sensor that will come with a triple rear camera setup. The smartphone could also have 27W fast charging support and top-of-the-line Snapdragon 855 SoC. The Mi 9 is expected to debut later this month and will have a starting price of CNY 2,999 (approximately Rs. 31,600).
